Nahan: Ignoring the norms of the state as well as the central pollution control board, the Paonta Sahib municipal council is dumping the solid waste of the town on the bank of the Yamuna river at Yamuna Ghat.As per as the information, about 6-7 tonnes of solid waste of the town is being dumped on the bank of the river every day so that it could be thrown in the river during rain. Surprisingly, the dumpers of the council continue to throw solid waste on the bank of the river in broad daylight and no action is being taken against the council administration. A few years back, questions were raised on the method of solid waste dumping in river bed and then the council had identified a site for the dumping of garbage near Matraliyon village but the local villagers opposed the move. Sources said that later the council identified several sites for the purpose but failed to finalize any site. The council administration pleaded that a fresh site for the dumping of solid waste would be identified soon. The council has around three dozen dumpers most of which throw the solid waste in the river bed every day, the sources added. Meanwhile, executive engineer Sharavan Kumar of the state pollution control board said that strict action would be taken against the municipal council if the facts were found true. However, executive engineer SK Mittal of the municipal council said that the facts would be verified. He admitted that the council did not have a proper dumping site.
