NAHAN: The deck for the disbursement of Rs 26 crore as compensation for the Renuka dam-affected people in four villages have been cleared. Due to the stay by the green tribunal, the management was not allowed for the disbursement. The tribunal had directed HPPCL to stop the land acquisition process under the Land Acquisition Act by passing an interim order. It had also restrained the public sector undertaking from carrying out construction activity on both non-forest and forest land and also from announcing the compensation. The stay of the green tribunal was vacated in July this year after then a clearance from the board of director of the HP Power Corporation Limited was required. Recently the board of director had given the clearance for the disbursement. Sources said that the disbursement would start from Saturday which would remain continued till mid-December. Notably, HPPCL had disbursed Rs 22 crore during the first phase. As per the information, the acquisition of 2,000 bighas (app) has been involved in the disbursement of Rs 26 crore in the second phase.Sources said that about 10,000 bighas of private land was proposed to be acquired by the management out of which the formality for 3,000 bigha land have been completed. Sources also said that most of the Shamlat land is involved in 40MW Renuka dam; about 20% land falls in other category. Experts says HPPCL would need Rs 350 crore for the compensation, out of which Rs 100-150 crore may be spent over the compensation of trees to villagers. On the other hand, the revenue wing of the Renuka dam visited Mohttu village for hearing the grievances of the dam-affected people on Friday. The villagers said that their cultivated land was defined as a barren land in records which should be corrected so that they could get appropriate compensation. When asked, land acquisition officer LR Chauhan confirmed that the deck for the disbursement of Rs 26 crore had been cleared and added that it was delayed due to the stay orders of the green tribunal.
