Bilaspur : The joyful marriage function turned into a painful incident when the pickup van (HP-24A-4576) in which the relative grooms were traveling to celebrate ‘Milni’ (family-introduction function of newly wedded) met with an accident and killed 8 women, 14 seriously injured referred to Post Graduate Medical Institute and Research Institute Chandigarh. The killed were identified Shyama Devi (40), Kamla Devi (35) and Meera Devi (22) all from Ghyana village in Brhampukhar area, Bhuri Devi (37), Dunglu Devi (72) and Juddya Devi (63) from Jinnu village of Jukhla area, Saroj Kumari (17) resident of Kothi and Seema Devi (36) of Batoh Thana in Barmana area of Bilaspur district. Fifteen other seriously injured including three infants were referred to PGMIR Chandigarh; nine injured are under treatment in Regional Hospital Bilaspur. One referred to PGI one seriouly injured Saroj Kumar (17 was scummed to injured in the PGI. According to information the groom’s family was going to bridegroom family in two pickups one was loaded with women only while in second only men. Incident took place when the women carrying vehicles turned from Shimla-Hamirpur national highway-88 road to connecting Khrota-Kutwana unmetalled road near Namhol, upon the steep height the driver could not controlled and after running back 10 to 15 feet the vehicle turned turtle over national highway. Deputy Commissioner Ritesh Chauhan said that inquiry has been marked under the Sub Divisional Magistrate Sandeep Kadam to find out the cause of the accident. He said as immediate relief to the kin of the deceased Rs 10,000 were given, while seriously injured were given Rs 5,000 as immediate help rest injured were according to injury and relief manual. He said other facilities for injured free ambulance, medical aid on account of Rogi Kalyan Samitti and free food to attendants of patient was made available at hospital. SP Santosh Patial said that FIR has been logged under section 279, 337 and 304 A for further investigations. SDM Sandeep Kadam and DSP Madan Lal rushed to spot for rescue operation and provided immediate necessary help to the injured in the accident.
